Seatrans Study Excursion 2017

Seatrans Study Excursion is an annual agenda of the Department of Marine Transportation Engineering, which has been held for three years since 2015. The main activities in this Seatrans Study Excursion are international company visits that are closely linked to the sea transportation sectors. The purpose of this activity is to introduce the business process of the marine transportation sector to the students, as well as an attribute to gain knowledge about technological developments in the world of sea transportation so that the students can have global insight.

Seatrans Study Excursion 2017 was held in Singapore on 16-20 November 2017, followed by 37 students of class of 2015 and accompanied by two lecturers (Christino Boyke, ST, MT and Hasan Iqbal Nur, ST, MT). Here is the briefly profile of the companies visited in Seatrans Study Excursion 2017:

  1. PSA International Pte.Ltd
    PSA International Pte.Ltd is one of the largest port operators in the world based in Singapore. PSA participates in port projects in Asia, Europe and America with major port operations at PSA Singapore and PSA Antwerp, Belgium.
  2. Sembcorp Marine Ltd
    Sembcorp Marine Ltd is a part of Sembcorp Industries, an Asian company based in Singapore. The company engages in offshore and marine building engineering in four key areas: Rig & Floaters, Repairs & Upgrades, Offshore Platform and Special Ship. Sembcorp Marine does its business globally through shipyards in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Britain and Brazil.
  3. Thome Ship Management Pte. Ltd.
    Thome Ship Management Pte. Ltd. is an integrated vessel management service provider for the international shipping industry and offshore industry that has been established for 50 years. The main business of the company consists of ship management, offshore structure management, ship inspection and crew training. Ship management is conducted especially for tankers, bulk carriers and container ships.

During the company visit, students got many opportunities to discuss with experts in the field of sea transportation as well as become the witness to see directly the operating conditions at the port of PSA, Sembcorp Marine shipyard and Thome Ship Management headquarters. In addition students also get the opportunity to visit the iconic places in Singapore, such as: Merlion Park, Marina Barrage, Haji Lane, Garden by the Bay, Sentosa Island, Bugis Street and so on.
